Early Report on the 40 Year Reunion and Pre-Reunion Party
August 16, 2010
Dear Classmates,
Wow, what a fun weekend! I hope that all of you who attended the event(s) enjoyed our time together.
The reunion planning team was very pleased with the 40 Year Reunion and the Pre-Reunion Get Together. Our goals were to be diligent in our efforts to inform our classmates about the reunion, create an affordable event and have fun. Judging by the comments heard, most everyone had a good time. We also felt good with our communication efforts, and the number of attendees exceeded our expectations. We will be sending you a recap of the actual money collected and costs of the event, together with a survey to ask for your feedback and suggestions. Please watch for that in the coming days.
We will also be sending you information on how to access and print the photos from the events. We are planning to use a photo sharing website that will make the photos available for printing at your local Walgreens, Walmart or Meijer stores. We would love to have you add your photos to this collection as well. Please watch for an e-mail with further information and instructions.
In the meantime, I wanted to share a few observations and musings from the events:
· Nero’s Pizza is larger than it appears judging by the number of people there Friday night. Thank you Nero’s for your donation to our reunion.
· The Holiday Inn Crystal Lake was a good backup venue for the Reunion. Our first choices Chateau Louise, Floyds, and Simonini’s Restaurant were not available.
· Event Staff do not have much time to mingle with people. My regrets and apologies to those that I missed.
· Despite the laws of gravity and the aging process, the class of 1970 is a great looking group of people (with only a few exceptions).
· You can teach an old (maturing) dog new tricks as evidenced by the group that danced the Cupid Shuffle. Thanks Gerri Curtis (Werle) and Don Esposito for teaching us the Cupid Shuffle. Thanks also to Gerri’s seven year old granddaughter who taught it to Gerri
· Dancing is great exercise (but makes your feet hurt).
· The Burmeister Sisters know how to dance and party!
· You don’t necessarily have to propose before you get married. Congratulations to Dave and Claudette Treadwell on their re-engagement!
· It pays to be Ugly (mean). Congratulations Bob Lewerenz for your narrow victory over Tom Huffman and Larry Miller.
· More people know (and can sing) the Viking fight Song than I imagined! Go Vikings!
· Breakfast at Around the Clock restaurant at 2:00 AM is still fun, but more tiring than it used to be!
· I think that this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt applies to our reunion: "Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art." But so does this philosophy put forward by Mark Twain: "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
· There is a pretty good chance of another reunion in 2020, when our eyesight will not be 20/20, or 2015.
Please stay connected to our Class Creator website by sharing your updates and new photos on your profile.
