Mike Montalbano

Michael Montalbano, 64, of Dwight, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, with his wife, Sue, at his side.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dwight with Father Chris Haake officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, with a special rosary prayer service starting at 3:45 p.m. for all who are interested in participating.
Mike was born March 13, 1952, in Chicago, a son of Michael J. and Evelyn Ann (Hichborn) Montalbano. He married Susan Campo on June 28, 1975, in Carpentersville. She survives in Dwight.
Also surviving are son, Ben Montalbano of Chicago, Michael Montalbano of El Paso; brothers, Jim (Georgia) Montalbano of Elgin, Thomas (Bobbi) Montalbano of Batavia; a sister, Pat (Dick) Gorski of Batavia; a brother-in-law, Bruce Burklow of Algonquin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Burklow.
Mike worked for the Illinois State Police as a radio technician in Pontiac and retired after working for more than 30 years.
He was a loving father, husband, uncle, brother and cousin. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he enjoyed helping behind the scenes with the music for Mass.
He also worked as a community youth soccer, basketball and baseball coach. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and enjoyed countless camping trips and excursions.
Mike was also a volunteer for ESDA in Dwight and previously worked for the Dwight Police Department and Dwight Ambulance Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike’s honor may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the family.
